Uthman ibn Affan (R.A)
Uthman Ibn Affan (R.A) was a highly
successful businessman who amassed immense wealth and enjoyed unparalleled
admiration during his time.
Renowned for his honesty and trustworthiness,
his ethical business practices earned him the respect of his peers and a loyal
clientele. Uthman steered clear of deceit and unfair dealings, ensuring that
every transaction was transparent and just.
Such was his reputation and charm that
Quraysh women would sing lullabies to their children, expressing their
affection with the words, “I love you as much as Quraysh love Uthman.”
Known as Uthman Ghani, he earned the title of the most generous man,
using his wealth tirelessly in service of Islam without any fear of poverty. To
him, his wealth was a divine trust, a means to fulfill the greater purpose of
advancing the message of Islam and supporting the Muslim community.
Yet, Uthman’s remarkable generosity was only
one aspect of his extraordinary character. His shyness and modesty were
unparalleled, even among the most pious of individuals. While shyness is often
associated with those living in anonymity, Uthman’s humility stood out as he
was a celebrated figure—a “millionaire superstar” of his era. Despite his
wealth and fame, he remained profoundly humble, a quality rarely found in
figures of such prominence. His modesty was so exceptional that even angels
display modesty in his presence.
One of the most vivid examples of his
humility was his practice of covering his lower body even while bathing in the
privacy of a closed room. This act of unwavering decency and respect for
himself and others was a testament to his deep sense of modesty and reverence.
Uthman’s life serves as a timeless example of
how success, humility, and service can coexist in perfect harmony.
